TO:                  Club 420 sailors

FROM:            Shannon W. Bush, Junior Women’s Championship Committee Chairman

RE:                   Club 420 Charter – U.S. Youth Sailing Championship

Congratulations!  Your request for a Club 420 charter has been approved. US SAILING is very fortunate to have Vanguard as a sponsor of the U.S. Junior Women’s Doublehanded Championship. This year Vanguard will be providing 20 brand new Club 420s for charter.

READ THIS CAREFULLY!   If you are unable to attend the championship, or you no longer need a charter boat, you must notify the Regatta Chairs, Jan & Carrie Slee (slee142@cox.net) via email immediately. If you do not notify us by May 31, 2005, you will severely jeopardize any future sailing for you and your crew in any other US SAILING championships.

By the time you have received this notice The Ida Lewis Yacht Club will have already received your entry fee of $350 (for both sailors), your charter fee of $350 and a refundable damage deposit of $250.

Your charter boat will be assigned to you when you register at Sail Newport Yachting Center on July 5th, 2005.  Your charter will not be available until you register.

Along with a hull and spars, the following equipment will be supplied with the boat:

Main, jib, spinnaker, battens and all sheets,

            centerboard, rudder and tiller/hiking stick,

            mainsheet ratchet block,

            cleats for the outhaul,

            hiking straps,

            an automatic bailer,

all lines and blocks for the vang

The competitor is responsible for bringing all other equipment including a 30-foot towline (required on all boats). This should include a trapeze harness, wind indicator, telltails and compass which must be attached in such a way so that when it is removed, there are no holes in the deck, or strips of tape, Velcro or any kind of marks left on the deck.

Attached is a sample of the Vanguard charter agreement that you will receive at the event. Please review it before you arrive.

Once given to you, it is your responsibility to make sure that your boat is returned to the manufacturer’s rep. clean, rinsed and in the best shape possible, and with all the equipment accounted for. You are expected to try your hardest to prevent these boats from being damaged while on shore, while launching and removing them from the water, and while racing them.

Remember, you are financially responsible for any damage assessed to your charter boat even in excess of your damage deposit.
